ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Jack London was born on January 12th, 1876 in San Francisco, California. His childhood of poverty, his experiences as a youth in varied laborious jobs and later at sea, as well as his participation in the Canadian Gold Rush, all found expression in his writing.
As a writer, London was both disciplined (he awoke early for a daily writing session) and prolific (he
produced over 50 volumes of stories, novels and political essays, many of them classics). London’s first collection of stories, The Son of the Wolf (1900), made him a best-selling author. He wrote two great animal novels: The Call of the Wild (1903) and White Fang (1906). Among London’s better-known works are the novels The Sea Wolf (1904) and Martin Eden (1909).
Jack London was a colourful personality. In addition to his writing, he was a sailor, a horseman, a rancher,a farmer, a lecturer, an adventure-seeker and a dreamer. Full of vitality, passion and enthusiasm, he worked and lived intensively – but his life was short. London died in 1916.
